MST3K #301: Cave Dwellers

Mystery Science Theater 3000 experiment #301: Cave Dwellers.
Original airdate: June 1, 1991.
Part of the second MST3K collection, still available from Amazon.

A confusing and seemingly plotless Italian film known by several different titles, this one stars Miles O'Keeffe as Ator, a musclebound Nordic warrior who has many different talents, including assembling modern hang gliders in what are supposed to be either prehistoric, or medieval times, and fighting samurai warriors. Anyway, Ator is notified about the discovery about the Geometric Nucleus, which could theoretically be used as a dangerous weapon. It's up to Ator to rescue the scientist Akronas from the evil warlord Zor, and keep the Nucleus from falling into the wrong hands. When all is said and done, Ator destroys it in a massive nuclear detonation.

On the Satellite of Love for the third season opener, Joel and the robots discuss what new names they would like to have, including Jose Jiminez, Mister Tibbs, and Chuck Woolery, and then Joel finally loses patience. He also debuts the literal smoking jacket for social occasions while down in Deep 13, TV's Frank (who will not be this week's cohost) and Dr. Forrester cast aside their Mike Douglas Show furniture in favor of robotic arm wrestling. Later, Joel, Servo and Crow re-enact the Film Ventures International credit sequence for the movie (which contained footage from a completely different picture). Joel also explains to the 'bots the practice of low budget films spicing up ordinary props with elaborate names, and demonstrates cheap sound effects with the aid of everyday household objects. After the film, the Mads insist that the movie wasn't that bad, so Crow retaliates with videotape of some of the aforementioned continuity errors.

Highly recommended episode, and it's one that even Miles O'Keeffe himself loved.
