MST3K #410: Hercules Against the Moon Men

Mystery Science Theater 3000 experiment 410: Hercules Against the Moon Men.
Originally aired August 22, 1992.
One-fourth of the seventh MST3K collection, still available.

An episode that pioneered DEEP HURTING.

The role of Hercules is now filled by actor Sergio Ciani, better known to MST3K fans as Alan Steel. Hercules shows up to help vanquish the alliance of a evil race of aliens and the queen of the city of Samar to conquer the world. The movie is noted for the long sandstorm sequence where most of the characters stumble around pointlessly, as if the scene was added to the finished film as filler.

The film is an Italian production, where the hero was intended to be Maciste, but the English distributors decided to dub him as Hercules, as Maciste was not well known to American audiences.

On the satellite, Joel and the bots discuss tough guy names, and sing an ode to "Pants!" Unfortunately, the Mads' practice of DEEP HURTING gets to Crow by the end of the movie, as he insults Gypsy while discussing something called "Wayne Rogers syndrome" (where a TV adaption of a popular movie usually sees Rogers cast as the lead role, as opposed to the original film actor), and mocks a viewer letter, prompting Joel to take him offscreen for punishment.

A great episode from the old days. Highly recommended.
